Look Back at Audio Equipment------ DJ Electronics

DJ Electronics manufactured sound equipment for the Disco sector for a number of years. The early mixers were pretty basic but well built and had rotary (yes rotary) controls. The signal to noise from these mixers was not as good as you expect today, quite 'hissy', but good for the time. Later units sported crossfade and sliders. The first mixers had a paint finish (black). Later they used a durable silver finish alloy plate, returning to black again later with an anodised finish. 100watt amps were common in the early days, surprisingly other manufacturers only managed 50watt. The electronics design was well thought out and very reliable and robust. By the mid 70's they had electronic control for deck start where others simply used big switches (with the annoying 'thump' when used).

Pictured left you can see one of the first slider type mixers, the MK IV. Just to the right is the sound to light controller (3 channel). Note that slider knobs were originally round & silver, those shown are not original but retro fitted, the same goes for the mixer below. If I find a better picture i will upload it.

Pictured right is the Stereovox II mixer. This had music autofade, zero level electronic deck start switches, twin vu level meters and high quality sliders. Full Stereo of course size wise, long! These were made to fit cabinets with two turntables built-in. This was very common to have it all in one box. Click to view full size
OK so I found some of my old spec sheets for the audio gear. We start with the earlier stuff from 1972 and follow with products up to the mid 80's. Sadly I don't have any pics to show the first early products but these should do for now. Marvel at the high finish level and just check out the weight of those decks we carried up countles flights of stairs..single handed.
